DIY - doing it yourself

Here's a photo of my new kitchen, which I have just finished building in my flat.  It has been a long time coming - I suffered for the first eighteen months sleeping with a fridge in the bedroom. Then I got myself sorted out and started work.  Needless to say, the conversion from one state to the other resulted in the expenditure of much energy, blood sweat and tears.

My new kitchen

On the right is the corner which became the kitchen. It was dark and poky, and not really much use for anything but storage.

This is the corner I chose for the new kitchen.

These pictures show a before-and-after of the bedroom. The image top right shows where the kitchen used to be - the kitchen was fine, but the mess it made of the bedroom was too much to bear. Note the kitchen units that were "recycled" to make the new kitchen! What can't be seen from this photo is that the cooker is on the other side of the room, which meant that I had to cross my bedroom to fill a pan with water. The picture below it shows how the ugly plywood shuttering has been replaced with wooden panelling, the venetian blinds have been replaced with curtains and a central heating radiator is the only thing left where the kitchen units used to be.
What can't easily be seen is a lot of renewed plasterwork, new picture rail, skirting and coving, new wallpaper and the new carpet.
